Final Reflection

Thursday marked the last lesson for this module. Looking back on all that we have accomplished, I didn’t think that I could survive. I remember enrolling in Ms Lim’s class last semester but I dropped it before the first lesson. I am glad that I did not do the same thing this time. Taking this module will definitely remain as one of the wisest decision I made in NUS.

I will like to highlight two main skills which I have developed through this course and they are being aware and working as a team. This course really taught me a lot about being aware about details in written and verbal communications. For example, the importance of concreteness and conciseness in writing. I also realised the importance of having a professional presentation for written communication and I think that it takes awareness to achieve it. This course also highlighted to me the importance of non-verbal communication which I was previously unaware of.

Another skill which I have developed will be working as a team. As a team sport player, I pride myself for my ability to work effectively in a team. But the project work in this module showed me a different side to team work. Through the project, I have learnt to give constructive criticism and take criticism the right way.

There are so many skills and lessons which I have learnt from this module which I cannot fit into this final blog post. Lastly, I will like to thank Ms Lim for making this journey enriching and interesting. To Team Planet, thank you for all the time and effort you have invested this semester! I’m so glad that I got to work with all of you! :) To all my classmates, thank you for making all the classes interesting and lively! I will miss those days when I excitedly (I really mean this) rush to class from my first lecture in the morning.

  1. Hey Pei Zi!

I must agree with you that this course has made us realize the importance of the nitty-gritty details of written and verbal communication. Only by paying attention to these seemingly minor aspects can we truly be effective in our communication.

And it was great to have you as a classmate too! Here's wishing you all the best in whatever you do man. =]

  2. Dear Zab,

Yes, I agree that after this module I'm more "analy" about all these details It's true that all these little details makes up the overall impression of the entire work. Thank you for your comment! :) All the best too!

  3. Hey Pei Zi,

I am glad that you did not drop this module. What would Team Planet be without you?! You are the heart of the project!

I agree with you that the course has given us a heightened awareness of our communication skills. Hopefully, it has made all of us a better communicator.

It is great to see that you have grown to be a more matured individual, capable of giving and receiving criticisms, from this module. Stay strong with your inner voice though! (I wonder what happens if both of us has strong inner voices)

All the best for your exams!

  4. Hi,

I am glad that you continued in this class. I agree that it is wise choice to take this module.

Until this module, I have thought much about how written and verbal work together would be more effective in bringing an idea across. Presenting what we have written in a concise way was something I have been enlighten to as well.

  5. Hey Pei Zi,

I think you've been actively practising what you've learnt in the module! The improvement was very noticeable from peer teaching (btw. As your partner, I think you're being too hard on yourself for that) to the oral presentation.

It's been great working with you for peer teaching, and having you as a classmate in general. Here's hoping that our future lab reports will turn out better after taking this module! =X

All the best for your finals, and see you around in lectures/labs/tutorials! =)

  6. Hi Ikhsan!

I see you have been paying attention to what I placed on my desktop screen! I love that quote "Don't let the voice of other's opinion drown out your inner voice." It's to remind me to believe in myself even when there's a lot of doubt going around.

Haha. I believe that communication played a very important role in our project. We all have our inner voices and but communication helped us accept each other's voices too. But of course, throughout the project there was a lot of give and take as well.

All the best for finals! :)

    Regards,
    Pei Zi

  7. Hi Peh Joo,

I'm glad that I did not drop the module too. Through this course, I believe that we have all picked up the necessary tools to equip us for our future communications. We will all continue to sharpen these tools to make us more effective communicators! :)

I will always remember you as the first person I spoke to in the class!

    Regards,
    Pei Zi

  9. Hi Peizi,

Like Peh Joo,Ikhsan and yourself, I really feel glad that you persevered in this module. Without you, I would have had one less awesome teammate and one less model presenter to learn from!

Team Planet also would not have made it without your constant rah-rahs and 'mother'ing; you're always making sure we're prepared for all our meetings by bringing your laptop, taking minutes, etc etc. Thank you! (:

It was a great pleasure working with you; hope we get to work again! Have fun on your exchange! (:
